Fishing the Wacky Worm rig?
I'm a little ashamed to say I've never once tried rigging up a worm Wacky style. Does anybody use this little rig much? If so, what's your over-all opinion on it? Is it pretty productive? What conditions do you find it to work best? What's the best retrieve to use for them? Also, most people I have seen use them have used a Senko styled bait. Why doesn't anybody seem to fish a standard curly tailed worm for this setup?
Does anyone use this little rig much?
I use it a lot during summer when sight-fishing for clearwater bass. Other than in highly pressured lakes, when I'm sight-fishing, or when I'm fishing in the hot summer, I don't use it much.
What's your overrall opinion on it?
I can say that the wacky-rigged Senko has caught fish for me when nothing else has. I rate it at an 8.5/10 for shear fish-catching ability.
Is it pretty productive?
It's VERY productive, especially in highly-pressured, clear water lakes.
What conditions do you find it to work best?
Mid-summer in highly pressured clear water lakes.
What's the best retrieve to use for them?
Just cast them out and let them wiggle until they get to the bottom. Then just pull the worm a few feet from the bottom and let it fall back down on slack line.
Why doesn't anybody seem to fish a standard curly tailed worm for this setup?
Because Senko's and other stick baits have the notorious wiggle on the fall that curly tailed worms don't have. Also, there is no reason to use a curly tailed worm in this situation, because the curly tail won't have much action when you fish it how you primarily fish wacky-rigged stick baits.
