Badge Reels Are Convenient, Cost-Effective and Conspicuous Promotional Tools
If you're looking for convenient ways to hold I.D. badges, key cards and other small items in the workplace, lanyards and badge reels are two popular options. Each has its place, but in many circumstances, badge reels prove to be the better choice.
With increasing concern for safety in public places, many employers, schools and other organizations require staff members, students, and sometimes even visitors to carry visible I.D. on their premises.
Badge reels and lanyards both meet the need to keep I.D. cards visible, and have significant advantages over clip-on or pin-on styles of I.D. holders. Neither damages clothing, the way pin-on badge holders do. They are harder to lose than clip-on holders.
For some applications, badge reels have significant advantages over lanyards. Badge reels can be clipped to a belt loop or pocket, and keeps the needed I.D. visible. But unlike lanyards, badge reels retract the cord holding the I.D., preventing it from swinging freely. Particularly in health care environments and busy factory operations, many people appreciate the fact that badge reels prevent the I.D. from getting in the way, getting soiled or getting snagged in running machines.
Particularly in a machine-heavy workplace, badge reels offer a significant safety boost over lanyards. Even with safety breakaways, lanyards could at least cause expensive downtime by getting caught in, and damaging, machinery. Although unlikely, the failure of a lanyard's safety breakaway could be catastrophic in such circumstances.
For typical office or academic settings, badge reels can be ordered in economy styles with plastic cases suitable for light duty use. These are most often made of plastic, and can be ordered in many colors, including translucent.
In industrial or warehouse-type settings, heavy duty badge reels made of metal are more suitable for the more demanding environment. The heavy duty style can be made with stronger cables to hold heavier objects. Both economy and heavy duty badge reels can be ordered in a choice of several sizes and shapes.
Badge reels can be made with logos or text printed on their plastic or metal cases, giving them a promotional presence in addition to their basic function. The imprint can be either single- or full-color process printed.
With custom imprints, badge reels are excellent trade show giveaway items. Pass them out to prospective customers and you've given them something they can use. When they're ready to order your products or services, they'll have your contact information right there in front of them. Badge reels used in such a manner can be highly profitable.
It's even possible to combine the promotional power and versatility of badge reels and lanyards in a way that enhances the convenience of both. A badge reel attached to the end of a lanyard gives the wearer greater reach and use flexibility than either would have separately. And a separate marketing message on each one doubles the power of the message. It's really the best of both worlds.
The Bottom Line is simple: badge reels or lanyards are valuable workplace tools. Both do a great job of keeping I.D. badges, key cards and other small items visible, close at hand and out of the way. For many applications, badge reels are a preferable alternative to lanyards.
