Did I say something wrong?
Its been a long time since I've bought a new rod and reel, I've been using the same Pflueger rod and Reel Combo for the last 20 years and I finally decided to get another set up. I live in a small town and had to drive 55 minutes to the closest fishing shop. I asked if they had Pflueger and he shows me a new Trion outfit, for around $60. As I'm looking at the rod I notice one of the eyes is about 1/4" out of alignment and hand the rod back to him showing him the misaligned eye. He then VERY gruffly tells me thats the only one he has and if it's not good enough for me I may be better off going to another shop!
Did I say something wrong? It's been a long time since I've bought a rod and reel, have things changed that much in 20 years?
I ended up driving another 30 minutes down the road to another fishing shop and bought a Pflueger Trion outfit there, with the GX7 reel and IM8 reel for a few dollars less!
No manager to talk to, the guy I was talking to owns and operates the shop.
You actually did the right thing by inspecting the rod and reel and pointing out the minor defect. It's your money you're spending and you want a solid outfit. If you switch shoes with the owner for a few seconds, the owner may have missed this detail and assumed you were after a discount which he could not afford. Then again he could have been just a jerk and tried to force feed you the system by saying," it's the only 1 I have." Either way, you did right by leaving and finding a different place to shop. Not only did you get a better deal, you got an outfit that'll last you another 20 years. Your gain, his loss and I'm sure you'll see him asking you, " want fries with your order?" when his shop is closed down with service like that.~ ; ) good luck catchin'.
